Police: No Criminal Charges in Accident That Killed Six-Year-Old

Southampton Town Police do not expect to press any criminal charges in a car accident that killed a six-year-old pedestrian on Sunday in Water Mill, Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa said in an email.

The accident occurred at about 11:19 a.m. Sunday on Blank Lane. Maurice Wittenburg, 76, of Water Mill, was driving a Toyota Prius northbound on Blank Lane when he struck Tess Burstein.

Burstein was taken to Southampton Hospital and then on to Stony Brook University Hospital where she died, police said. 

Wittenberg and his female passenger were not injured in the crash and the car was impounded for a safety check, police said. 

Detectives ask anyone who may have information about the crash or who witnessed the crash to call 631-702-2230.
