Shelter Pet: Coco Wants a Home for Easter
3-year-old female miniature Dutch rabbit available at Southampton Animal Shelter.

This week, the Southampton Animal Shelter is looking to find a home for Coco, a 3-year-old female miniature Dutch rabbit.
Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, said with Easter arriving in a few weeks, it’s important to remember the responsibility of adopting a rabbit is a lifelong responsibility, just like adopting any other pet.
"People often get rabbits around Easter time, but sometimes grow tired of caring for them and just release them," Bambrick said. "Unfortunately, unlike their wild cousins, domesticated rabbits are not equipped to survive on their own in the wild. It's not only cruel to release domesticated rabbits, it's also a crime that can result in up to a year in jail or $1,000 in fines."

All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.
Adoption fees typically range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog. Call to learn Coco's adoption fee.
