Southampton All Stars Crowned Little League Champs

In just the third time in 11 years, Southampton All Stars are champions of District 36 Little League Baseball majors level with a victory over the all-star team from Shoreham-Wading River on Saturday, 4-3.

It took eight innings, including two innings of overtime, excellent coaching by Ken Sisco, and a display of home run hitting by Jonny Navan, hitting 3 homers, to seal the victory.

Key contributions were made by everyone on the team including Jayden Peppitone, who pitched two good innings, followed by Jem Sisco, who took over the pitching through to the bottom of the eighth inning. The game ended "regulation," after six innings, tied at 3 apiece. The seventh inning came and went with no change in the score. In the top of the eight inning, Shoreham-Wading River elected to pitch to Navan, whom they had intentionally walked earlier in the game. Navan made them pay for that decision by blasting his third home run over the center field fence, approximately 225 feet. 

With the score 4-3, Shoreham-Wading River had the bottom of the eighth to either tie or win. Sisco faced the first batter with under 10 pitches left on his "pitch count." After two quick outs, Shoreham-Wading River was down to its last out and Sisco was down to his last pitch. The pitch was thrown and the hitter bunted the ball to Jayden Peppitone, playing third base, who threw it to Will Raffle at first for the final out ending the game. Other key contributions made throughout the game was eight flawless innings by the team's catcher, Christian Miller, who during regulation fired a shot to third baseman Thomas Gabreille who tagged the runner out. Clutch hits were made by Tommy Steinbrecher and Will Raffle. Great defensive catches were made by Billy Flynn and Sebastian Periera in deep outfield. 

The Southampton All Stars now continue beyond their District [36] in games further west in Suffolk County. All of these district champions are on the road to the Little League World Series held every year in Pennsylvania. Win or lose the Southampton All Stars are the champs of a wide swath of Suffolk County encompassing many schools and hundreds of players. Their names will be etched into a plaque and hung on the fence at their home field at Flying Point in Southampton, next to the 2007 and 2001 plaques commemorating the Champions of District 36.
