Here are the top stories in Southampton today:
- Carmine J. Monteforte III, 40, of Westhampton Beach, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after a crash in Quogue Friday that left another driver with serious injuries, police said. The driver of the F-250, a man, 60, from Mastic, suffered serious physical injuries after his pickup truck was hit head-on with Montefiore's pickup truck. The crash took place just east of, where five were killed in July in a head-on crash; family members of those lost have been advocating for a traffic study to examine what can be done to mitigate what many believe is a dangerous stretch of roadway. - The Annual Pink Pearl Gala, celebrating breast-cancer survivors, is planned for April 8, 2022. The cocktail reception, seated dinner, and dancing to music by Phil Schmidt of Make Some Noise DJs will be held from 6-10 p.m. at East Wind Long Island, 5720 Route 25A, Wading River. Seating for the inspiring, wear-pink or -teal event will be available for $125 per person and $95 for breast-cancer survivors through www.northforkbreasthealth.org. To reserve individual seating or reserve tables for a group, please leave a message at the coalition office in Riverhead at 631-208-8889. - According to Suffolk County police, a man was breaking into a home on 5th Avenue in West Babylon at about 3:30 a.m. when the homeowner, an NYPD detective, shot the man. The man, who police did not name, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
