2. Braulio M. Perez, 36, was arrested and charged with trespassing after he was found asleep on someone's living room floor in Flanders, police said. Perez was arrested and taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters, where he was charged with second-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, processed, and held for morning arraignment, police said.(Southampton Patch)
3. History was made in Wainscott recently as construction officially began on New York's first offshore wind project, South Fork Wind. Gov. Kathy Hochul and others traveled to Wainscott in East Hampton, along with United States Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and other elected officials, to celebrate the kick off to South Fork Wind, jointly developed by Ørsted and Eversource off the coast of Montauk. 4. The time is now to start thinking about Plum Island's next chapter. So said longtime advocates to preserve Plum Island, discussing the issue at a virtual environmental roundtable organized by New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo, New York State Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, and New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele. During the discussion, Thiele asked about the status of Plum Island. In 2020, after a fierce battle that spanned years, environmentalists and elected officials rejoiced as they announced that Plum Island would no longer be sold on the auction block. Mark Woolley, district director for Rep. Lee Zeldin, said he last visited Plum Island late last year. The Department of Homeland Security, he said, is preparing to shut down operations at the facility by 2028 at a closure cost of $150 million. (Patch)
