1. The New York State Association for Health recognized Southampton School District Athletic Director Darren Phillips as the Suffolk Zone Physical Education Director of the Year. Phillips earned the designation after his district's physical education staff nominated him for the noteworthy title. "This award is a testament to the growth and evolution of our physical education program over the past 20 years since I started at Southampton," Phillips said. (Southampton Patch)
2. Residents urge Southampton Zoning Board of Appeals to deny proposed 7-Eleven gas station and convenience store on a property on the Riverside traffic circle. The proposal is “exactly the opposite of what the town’s planning staff and the community want for this location,” Northampton Community Association Vince Taldone said. “There will be buildings surrounding this site that are mixed-use. They’re designed for pedestrian access. They’re designed for a natural, friendly flow between downtown Riverhead and Riverside. We will have parks, restaurants, affordable housing, market rate condos. This is all in the overlay district plan,” Taldone said. The opposition continues. (Riverhead News Review)
