- There are 54,700 unemployed Long Islanders, according to state data. Though that may seem high, it is actually 36,600 less than the same month last year. "Statewide, the unemployment rate for February was 5.1 percent, which is much lower than the all-time high during the pandemic of 16.5 percent, which was set in May 2020. But it is also not yet back to pre-pandemic levels. The statewide unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in Feb. 2020," the state reported. (Patch)
