Here are the top stories today in Southampton:
- LGBTQ Health Awareness Week encourages everyone to speak openly about LGBTQ health. Discrimination against LGBT persons has been associated with high rates of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and suicide. "The goal is to improve the health, safety, and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning or queer individuals," said Dr. Pigott, Suffolk County's Health Commissioner. (Press Release Desk)
- Steven Skrynecki, with over 40 years of law enforcement experience is Police Chief of Southampton Town, is committed to keeping the East End's residents' abode safe. “We have a five-year record of declining major crime in Southampton, due, in part, to our commitment to community involvement, the dedication of the men and women of the department, and our desire to explore ways to improve,” Skrynecki says, “while at the same time, dealing with an ever-increasing population on the East End.” (Dan's Papers)
- There are many people who helped transform the Hamptons to what it is today. This month we honor women who envisioned more for their communities and took the steps to make the change they wanted to see. Dan's Paper spotlights "four Hamptons power women who left this Earth knowing they improved their communities for all who came after them." (Dan's Papers)
