Here are the top stories in Southampton today:
- The Republican Party is backing Nick LaLota of Amityville as the GOP candidate for the First Congressional District seat vacated by incumbent Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is running for governor. LaLota said in an interview that he is confident that he can represent the far-flung First Congressional District, which, as redrawn, now includes parts of all 10 Suffolk towns — plus a portion of the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County. - On Feb. 17, the police were called to the Riverhead Middle School after three students possibly ingested THC candy called "Medical Nerds," authorities said. None of the students required medical attention, police said. Marvin A. Dominguez Torres, a 20-year-old Riverhead resident, had given a 14-year-old student the THC candy; he was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said. (Riverhead Patch)

- Mario Tocay-Xuya, 32, a Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Riverside early Monday, police said. According to Southampton Town Police, at 12:15 a.m. Tocay-Xuya was seen failing to maintain his lane on Flanders Road. Tocay-Xuya was arrested, charged with misdemeanor DWI, as well as several other New York State vehicle and traffic law violations, police said. (Southampton Patch)
