  1. Join the Pet Food Pantry event, hosted by the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF), on Saturday, May 21, from noon to 3 p.m. at Petco, located at Bridgehampton Commons, 2044 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. Cat food is greatly needed, as is unopened bags of dog food, both wet and dry, and treats! (Southampton Patch)
  2. The Red Cross is traveling to Long Island to install free smoke alarms! The Red Cross home visits are free and will last 20 minutes. If you are interested in having a fire alarm installed in your home, click this link to register for the distribution as soon as possible. (Riverhead Patch)
  3. The water authority's board approved an increase of 4.8 percent at its March 31 meeting. Effective June 1, the Suffolk County Water Authority's quarterly service charge of $29.17 per quarter will increase to $30.57 per quarter. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. The National Park Service is proposing new driving regulations on the Fire Island National Seashore. Their primary consideration is given to potential resource damage and to anticipated disruption of normal public use. Permits would be limited to one per household and one per contractor or business owner. (Greater Long Island)
