Here are the top stories in Southampton today:

  1. Southampton resident and parent Natalie Massa, who is from Ukraine, and her nonprofit dedicated to the helping Ukraine has partnered with Southampton Elementary School students in a collection drive sponsored by the school's Opening Act Rotary Club. According to Patch, "Opening Act Rotary Club members, led by adviser Nick Epley, are collecting items — including clothes, blankets, toys, diapers, toiletries and first aid supplies — at the school on an ongoing basis. All donations will be delivered to Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church and other local churches that are collecting and shipping to Ukraine." (Patch)
  2. Leaf blower ban vote by Southampton Town Board is expected next week. The Town Board resolution states, "the seasonal restriction will effectively remove noise disturbances at times most impactful to the community, this measure, coupled with other regulations included herein, will materially improve environmental conditions in the Town by reducing carbon emissions significantly, and thereby supports the Town’s efforts to realize a goal of zero emissions by 2040."   3. "Stony Brook University will lead a new, innovative network of regional biomedical research institutions to accelerate translational research that will impact and advance clinical care for many physical and mental health conditions," according to Stony Brook News. (Stony Brook News)
  4. The Suffolk County Community College's Lyceum Gallery has a new exhibit. "Dean Johnson: The Artist and His Apprentice" will be on exhibit on the Eastern Campus from March 14 through April 11. According to Patch, among others, Johnson will exhibit his 48 x 48 inch, portrait of Marylyn Monroe, a plexi-glass, resin, paint and digital work that lights up and changes color.   5. The Hamptons United Methodist Church donated $25,000 to support the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center's outreach and after-school program. The congregation was inspired after hearing that the Center was able to carry on with their after-school program during the pandemic. A similar program at the church that served 25 Southampton students has been on hiatus since the pandemic began. (Southampton Patch)
