SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Residents impacted by the often storm-socked Dune Road, among other areas in Southampton's towns and villages, will now have a new emergency preparedness notification system.

The Southampton Town departments of public safety and emergency management have partnered with the Villages of Quogue, Westhampton Beach and West Hampton Dunes to implement a new "Notify Me" notification group.

Initiated after emergency preparedness discussions between the Town of Southampton and
the Village of Quogue, Southampton town officials are embarking upon the new community notification effort to be able to convey important information to residents quickly.

Through partnerships with the Village of Quogue, Village of Westhampton Beach and West Hampton Dunes, the Dune Road closures/emergencies notification group list will be utilized to get important preparedness messages to Southampton Town residents and visitors all along Dune Road, no matter what specific jurisdiction they reside in.

"The issues and concerns that face our residents and visitors on Dune Road are unique due to their geographic location and immediate exposure to direct impacts from coastal storm events," said Southampton Town Emergency Manager Ryan Murphy. "Although this area may benefit from beautiful ocean views, it is also one of the most vulnerable areas in the town with regard to flooding and erosion concerns."

The Town of Southampton utilizes a system called Notify Me to communicate with residents about different programs, activities, and functions. The system is maintained by the town's Citizens’ Response Center. Individuals can sign up for email notifications about a variety of different topics of interest on the Town of Southampton website. These available notification lists now include a special resident notification list that the Village of Quogue can utilize, as well as the new Dune Road list.

"I’m pleased to work with the leadership from the villages to create this new Dune Road closures/emergencies notification list," said Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore. "Being prepared can mean knowing what to do and when to do it, as well as knowing what not to do. I encourage all residents to sign up for notifications so that they can be aware of what is going on and stay informed. The safety of our residents and visitors is the highest priority of the Town of
Southampton."
