Westhampton Boater Rescued

On Wednesday April 30, just before 8 a.m., Southampton Town Police were called about a man in his mid-60s stranded in the water at the Westhampton Beach Bath and Tennis Club. A passerby heard the man's cries for help and called 911.

The Westhampton Beach Patrol Unit pulled the swimmer from the 43-degree water. He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Central for symptoms of hypothermia. (US Coast Guard Station Shinnecock Police also responded.)

It turned out that the swimmer had fallen into the water while climbing out of his boat onto the dock. He was unable to pull himself out of the water and had been calling out for help for more than an hour.
