Woman In 2-Car Flanders Crash Was Driving While Ability-Impaired By Drugs: Police

She was arrested Tuesday afternoon, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A Bohemia woman was arrested after she was found to be impaired by drugs following a two-car crash in Flanders Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at 4:22 p.m. on Flanders Road near Chauncy Road.

Police said Elsie Rivera, 61, of Bohemia, was driving while ability-impaired by drugs; Rivera was also found to be in possession of a quantity of a controlled substance and was arrested at the scene, police said.

She was transported to Southampton Town police headquarters where she was charged with misdemeanor DWAI-drugs; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, police said.

She was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court.
