April Storm Causes 14K Power Outages In The Hudson Valley
Some schools are delayed or closed, roads are blocked, bus routes have been detoured.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Downed wires, flooding and, yes, snow are causing problems in the Hudson Valley Thursday.
Scattered power outages are plaguing communities in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester due to the April storm. Early morning snow and ice caused some school delays and closures. SEE: More Closings, School Delays In Hudson Valley Thursday
Con Ed reported 11,817 customers out of power in Westchester County as of 8:25 a.m.

Other local outages as of 8:20 a.m.:
- Central Hudson: Dutchess County 780, Ulster 152, Orange 11
- NYSEG: Dutchess County 363, Ulster 145, Putnam 117, Westchester 66, Orange 3
- O&R: Orange 26, Rockland 8, Ulster 6
Other communities hardest hit by power outages are nearby to the north, in Columbia, Sullivan, Rensselaer, Greene counties.

"After nearly 2 1/2” of rainfall, sleet arrived at around 1:30 AM, here in Monroe. It has transitioned to snowfall," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather wrote on Facebook. "Wintry precipitation, mostly in the form of snowfall, is expected to end from west to east between 7 AM and 9 AM, this morning. Expect snowfall totals from a trace up to 3”+ of snowfall. Highest elevations will measure the highest totals."
Downed wires caused travel problems.
In New Castle, Route 120 closed Wednesday when several trees fell on power lines, and where Whippoorwill Road is closed between Haights Cross Road and Whipoorwill Lake Road and a portion of Meadow Lane is closed due to downed wires.
In Mount Vernon, parts of Stuyvesant Avenue, Central Parkway, Devonia Avenue, Langdon Avenue and North Terrace Road are closed as Con Ed crews work.

- Route 60 N/B: From Mamaroneck Ave. & Livingston Ave., L/T Livingston Ave., R/T Greenridge Ave., R/T Maple Ave., L/T back onto Mamaroneck Ave.
- Route 60 S/B: From Mamaroneck Ave. & Maple Ave., L/T Maple Ave., L/T Greenridge Ave., R/T Livingston Ave.
The storm "may end by noontime or sooner for some areas in our southern counties and a little later for our north/northeastern counties," Todd Snow of Hudson Valley Weather said on Facebook. "Please be safe if driving and or walking."
