Crash Injures 5; Mahopac Driver Charged With DWI: Carmel Police
He crossed into oncoming traffic, police said.
MAHOPAC, NY — A Mahopac man was accused of driving drunk after a crash on Route 6N injured five people, Carmel police said.
In the early evening hours July 7, two officers responded to Route 6N at Colonial Drive for a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries reported.
Their preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a white Mercedes Benz crossed over the double yellow line and entered the opposite lane of traffic, striking a Honda CR-V.

There were five people in the Honda and all were injured, police said. All five victims were transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Subsequent investigation at the scene determined that the operator of the Mercedes was driving while under the influence of alcohol and that he had a prior conviction for DWI, police said.

Elijah Acevedo, 37, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic infractions, police said.
Acevedo was was arraigned and released, pending a future court appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.
