PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — Assemblyman Kevin Byrne collaborated with the Putnam Humane Society recently to run a light-hearted charity drive called Donate for a Paws.

Byrne collected donations from across the county for local rescue animals to help the Putnam shelter stock up with everything needed for this winter.

The Putnam Humane Society, located in Carmel, is a not-for-profit shelter, as well as one of the first “no kill” shelters in the county. They generously rescue countless animals throughout the year, taking them off the streets and out of the hands of abusive and neglectful owners, he said.

“I am proud of our community for continually stepping up in donating for amazing causes such as this one,” Byrne said. “Shelters like this do so much for our community. It is important that we continue to support them and show our appreciation for the hard work they do. They rely on generous donors to help them give these animals the care and love that they deserve as they wait to find their forever homes. I’m happy we could help support the Putnam Humane Society.”

With six drop-off locations throughout the district, Byrne said he was able to make a large donation to the shelter, including items such as food, toys, office supplies, treats, and more.

If you missed the drive and would like to still donate, the Putnam Humane Society has an online wish list — and accepts donations throughout the year.

“Thank you to Assemblyman Kevin Byrne and his team for the wonderful donation drive they coordinated for the shelter,” said Michele Dugan, president of the Putnam Humane Society. “Their hard work and generosity is appreciated by all! We are incredibly lucky to have the support of the community and grateful we can give the dogs and cats the care and love they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. It truly is a labor of love. If everyone can share our Facebook posts to help us find those forever homes, it would be wonderful. Our wish list is on our website www.Puthumane.org, if you would like to donate. You can also give the shelter a call for more information at 845-225-7777.”
