Free glaucoma screenings will be provided by The Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation
(Fishkill, NY) – U.S. Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, M.D. (NY-19) is sponsoring Glaucoma Awareness Day in Putnam County, New York, on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, in recognition of National Glaucoma Awareness and National Eye Care Month. The event will be held at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, New York, and will offer free diagnostic glaucoma screenings to the public, provided by Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation. No appointment is necessary to receive a vision screening and screenings should take no longer than five minutes per person.

As a member of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus, a non-partisan organization whose purpose is to educate about the risks of glaucoma and other blindness-causing eye diseases, Congresswoman Hayworth is working to provide diagnostic screening opportunities for high risk glaucoma population groups across the nation. Prior to being elected to office, Congresswoman Hayworth practiced ophthalmology for 16 years.
