He Told Cops His Car Was Stolen When He Stopped To Check On A Hurt Deer, But The Story Fell Apart: Sheriff
After telling an outlandish tale, the Carmel man was charged with DWI and false reporting, according to law enforcement.
CARMEL, NY — After telling authorities a wild tale about a deer in the road and bandits on the road, a Carmel man found himself under arrest.
Sheriff Brian Hess announced the arrest of 35-year-old Scott A. Endrulat, of the Town of Carmel, after an investigation in the Town of Southeast.
On Sunday, at 10:55 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Carmel Avenue and Drewville Road, in the Town of Southeast, after receiving a report of a vehicle larceny in progress.

The caller, later identified as Endrulat, told the deputies that while he was stopped on the side of the roadway to check on an injured deer, an unknown person entered his vehicle and stole it. The vehicle was subsequently located crashed nearby.
During the investigation, Endrulat admitted that the car theft report was false and that he had crashed his vehicle. Further investigation determined that Endrulat was intoxicated, according to the Sheriff's Office. He failed standardized field sobriety tests and was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing, deputies said.

Endrulat was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, driving while intoxicated, and traffic violations.
He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court.
