Newburgh Man Sentenced For Selling Drugs, Endangering Child

Prosecutors said he was arrested after a two-month narcotics investigation.

CARMEL, NY — A Newburgh man will be going to prison after pleading guilty to selling illegal drugs and having sex with a minor.

Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy said that Malik Ellis, 26, of Newburgh, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in state prison with a post-release supervision of two years.

He had pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Ellis was arrested Feb. 7 after a two-month investigation conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Narcotic Enforcement Unit.

He was charged with selling a quantity of fentanyl on three separate occasions to someone who was working in conjunction with law enforcement.

Authorities said the sales took place between December and February.

In addition, while being held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility awaiting trial, investigators found that Ellis had solicited an obscene sexual act from a minor with whom he had a prior relationship. He pleaded guilty to that Aug. 30.
