Obituary: Gaetano Cilenti, Former Brewster Village Trustee

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church.

Gaetano Cilenti of Brewster, NY, passed away at home Wednesday November 1, 2023, with his family at his side at the age of 82.

Guy was born December 11, 1940, in Bronx, NY. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, then served in the Army from 1962 to 1965. He married his best friend and High School Sweetheart Edith Hambrook and in 1977 they moved to Brewster, NY. Guy worked as a Construction Superintendent and was a proud member of Local 731 Laborers Union in New York City.

At home in Brewster, he was active in the Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Council, Village of Brewster board member, a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church where he was a Eucharistic minister, little league and basketball coach, Boy Scouts-Cub Master, lifetime fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants. His most favorite hobby was traveling to all the places his grandchildren lived to spend time with them. This took him to both coasts and across the middle of the U.S.

Besides his wife Edith he is survived by his children Gaetano Cilenti Jr., Patti Cilenti, Cathy Stanley, Stephen Stanley, Judy Westfield, Ed Westfield, Chris Cilenti, Ginine Cilenti and Linda Johnson; grandchildren Anthony, Ashley, Rebecca and Samantha Cilenti, Vanessa, Erin, Shannon, Shane and Kyle Stanley, Shelbi, Sophie, Mackenzie, and Mia Westfield, Sarah (Johnson) Skorubski, great grandchildren Jeffrey and Alyda Cilenti, Jack Stanley and Cuyler and Lily Skorubski. He was predeceased by his son Buck Johnson.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday November 7, 2023, at 12:00 pm at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, followed by the interment in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster.

Contributions in Lieu of flowers may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
