Obituary: Rose C. Anacreonte, Oldest Putnam County Resident
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church.

At the age of 108, Rosina Citriniti Anacreonte, the late matriarch of our family, passed away in the day of Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, Monday, January 1st 2024 in Mt. Pleasant, N.Y. Rosina was born April 14th 1915, in Pittsburgh, PA daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (nee Capicotto) Citriniti.
Rose returned to her home town Pentone, Catanzaro in Italy at the age of 8. There she grew up and at the age of 35, married her love and husband Nicola.

In 1952, she emigrated and then worked with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in New York City until the age of retirement.
Rose lived happily and fulfilled in her later years, cradled in the care of her daughter and son in law's family home where their life was dedicated to achieving and exceeding all that was necessary for her. She was additionally survived by a son, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She enjoyed hobbies including: baking, cooking, making conserves, crocheting, knitting, sewing, exercising, watching the sunrise, storytelling and anecdotes family history, times past, traditions, reciting dialectic holiday songs and prayers. She especially enjoyed the holidays baking traditional sweets.
In 2023, Rose was recognized by Putnam County's Office for Senior Resources as the oldest citizen in the county. Rose was awarded with a bouquet of red roses and featured in the Senior Guide, yearly newspaper print edition.
She is warmly remembered by all in the quaint town and tight knit community she left behind.
In the occasion of her 100th birthday, a joint virtual celebration was held. As a treasured and oldest living town's woman in the world today, Rosina was especially honored and recognized. She was featured on Italian National television where her bravery and resilience in being one of the first women from her town to emigrate post World War II was cited.
Additionally, she was locally loved by all the neighbors and friends who often stopped by to visit her.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 9th at St. Lawrence O'Toole in Brewster, NY 10509, followed by the burial at St Raymond's Cemetery, in The Bronx, NY. Calling hours will take place Monday, January 8th from 5 pm to 9 pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY 10509.
