Putnam Hospital Center Auxillary Donates $50K for Mammography Unit

The Putnam Hospital Center Auxiliary recently gave a major gift to the hospital toward the purchase of a state-of-the-art mammography unit.

Auxiliary Co-President Peg Lindblom delivered a $50,000 check to Putnam Hospital Center Foundation Executive Director Priscilla Weaver earlier this month. The contribution is the first installment of a $150,000 pledge the Auxiliary has made toward the purchase of a digital breast tomosynthesis unit, also known as 3D mammography, for the hospital.

The Auxiliary’s gift ties in with enhancements to the hospital’s breast center program. In recent months, the hospital received a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The accreditation program is administered by the American College of Surgeons and is only given to centers committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care to their patients.

“Thank you to the Putnam Hospital Center Auxiliary for their generous gift,” Putnam Hospital Center’s Medical Imaging Director Richard Hvisch said. “The 3D mammography unit is a welcome addition to the Imaging Department and an important technological advancement for our patients.”

The Auxiliary’s donation comes from money raised through the service of volunteers in the hospital gift shop and the Eagle Eye thrift shop in Brewster.

The Putnam Hospital Center Auxiliary was formed in 1963 and has made more than $7 million in pledge payments since its inception.
