Sheet Metal Workers To Start Apprentice Recruitment Drive
Applications must be obtained in person at the union's office in Brewster.
BREWSTER, NY — The sheet metal workers union Local 38 will hold a recruitment drive for 20 apprentices from Jan. 2 through Dec. 30.
Applications can be obtained at 38 Starr Ridge Road, Brewster, NY 10509, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The training committee requires that applicants:

- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED) as recognized by official school authorities.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to operate company vehicles.
- Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
- Must be willing and able to travel within the jurisdiction of Local Union #38, which includes: the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester in New York; and the counties of Fairfield and Litchfield in Connecticut.
- Must submit to drug testing, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must take a Math Test administered by Local Union #38. The trade requires an extensive amount of math and work with rulers.
- Must provide Certificate of Release or Discharge from active duty form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
