Storm Deluging The East Coast May Dampen The Hudson Valley
There's a full harvest supermoon and a partial lunar eclipse Tuesday: will skies be clear enough?

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — There's rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, but it may not get far up into the Hudson Valley.
"I am a little disappointed. It’s getting way too dry and we have gone 10 consecutive days without rainfall," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook.
The chance of showers peaks at 50 percent Wednesday and Thursday in Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, and there's only a 30 percent chance of rain in Dutchess and Ulster, according to the National Weather Service.

Contrast that with New York City, expected to be affected by the storm system coming up from the Carolinas, where it dumped more than a foot of rain: Southern Storm Targets New York: See Latest Forecast.
Still, the cloud cover Tuesday night may limit chances to see the full moon — a supermoon as well as harvest moon — or the partial lunar eclipse, which will make the lunar event also a blood moon.

"The lunar eclipse will peak at 10:44 p.m. ET, according to NASA," said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather. "All of North and South America will have a chance to see the partial lunar eclipse and harvest supermoon. Cloud cover is 50/50."
According to space.com, a supermoon happens when a full moon coincides with the moon's closest point to Earth in its orbit and appears slightly brighter and larger than usual. The partial eclipse will give that part of the moon not in shadow a reddish-brown appearance.
