Westchester Parks Foundation is offering two hands-on internships for students ages 14-19 who are looking to get involved with their local parks this summer. Summer Greenternship participants will learn about the effects of the aquatic invasive species—the water chestnut—and work in canoes and on land to remove it from a lake at one of two local parks. Greenterns will contribute to an important project, meet other students interested in caring for our environment, and help promote a healthy ecosystem in the lake. This program aims to provide clean water for the return of native species, the use of the lake for recreation, and overall enhancement to the quality of life for Westchester community members. The deadlines to apply are June 15 (Yonkers) and June 22 (Peekskill).
Date: Select dates: 7/5-7/20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (Yonkers) and 7/25-8/3 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (Peekskill)

Girls on the Run is looking for volunteers to serve as Team Coaches for young girls. Coaches are trained volunteers who lead a team of participants through a season of powerful and fun lessons. Coaches do not need to be runners themselves; they simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation. Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give! All coaches must pass a background check and at least one coach from each site must be certified in CPR.
Date: Flexible schedule
Organization: Girls on the Run
Location: Throughout Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam
