Sunset Park Fire Leaves 8 Homeless And 2 Hurt, FDNY Says

The four-story brick building at 529 56th St. caught on fire at about 12:47 a.m. and took 106 firefighters almost two hours to put out.

SUNSET PARK, NY — An early morning blaze at a 56th Street apartment building left eight people homeless and two firefighters with minor injuries, the FDNY said.

The four-story brick building at 529 56th St., near Fifth Avenue, caught on fire at about 12:47 a.m. on Tuesday, a spokesman for the FDNY said. Nearly 106 firefighters responded and the flames were put under control at 2:18 a.m.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries working on the fire and were taken to an area hospital, the FDNY said.

The flames damaged the fourth-floor and the space between the ceiling and the roof of the building. The damage displaced eight people and the Red Cross was administering aid, fire officials said.
