Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. Students and teachers in New York City have been rallying for City Council to pass a bill that would reduce class sizes–a bill that Speaker Corey Johnson has not yet brought to a vote. On recent day of action, one Sunset Park School showed support for the bill with 92% of unionized teachers reportedly wearing red. (Liberation)
  2. A first-of-its-kind report released by the NYC health department revealed that Asian and Pacific Islander communities are definitively not a monolith, with huge health disparities existing between different immigrant groups. For instance, 61% of Chinese immigrant households reported limited English-speaking skills, while that number is only one in five for Filipinos. (Gothamist)
  3. Advocates marched over the weekend demanding a return to tuition-free education at New York City public colleges, known as "CUNYs," asking lawmakers in Albany to pass the "New Deal For CUNY" legislation. They were joined by Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes. (Gothamist)
