Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- New York lawmakers are considering their options to increase voting rights in the state in lieu of the failure to pass two constitutional amendments. They want to move the date for registration to 10 days before an election, and to extend no-excuse absentee voting through 2024. The push is being led in part by Sunset Park State Senator Zellnor Myrie. (Gothamist)
- Here's 15 local Brooklyn nonprofits to consider giving to this Giving Tuesday. (Brooklyn Reader)
- Citizens Committee for NYC announced it's giving out $5,000 grants for Brooklyn-based neighborhood and community initiatives. That's money to organize your neighbors, not necessarily to fund an established nonprofit. (Brooklyn Reader)
- Amid rapidly evolving news around the newly identified omicron COVID-19 variant, Mayor De Blasio and Governor Hochul encouraged caution yesterday, suggesting masks should be worn indoors at all times. They stopped short of reinstating a full mask mandate. (NYC Patch)
