Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. The amount of trees in Brooklyn has increased considerably, and at a faster rate than some other boroughs, according to a study by the Nature Conservancy. The study looks at tree stock— the amount of trees compared to the amount of possible free space for them, and found that the most wooded neighborhoods surround large green areas like Green-Wood Cemetery, which has a digitized catalogue of its trees.   2. Democratic Councilmember Justin Brannan narrowly defeated his Republican opponent Brian Fox after absentee ballots were counted. (Brooklyn Paper)
  3. New York City took a big step towards making its pandemic-era outdoor dining program permanent, when the Department of City Planning voted for it unanimously. Some city residents say it negatively impacts their quality of life, and have filed lawsuits. (Gothamist)
  4. New York City Public Advocate and former Councilman from Brooklyn Jumaane Williams announced he's running for governor on Tuesday. During his announcement he talked about living with Tourette Syndrome, a chronic condition affecting the nervous system. (Gothamist)
