SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — With crime up so far this year in the NYPD's 72nd Precinct, Sunset Park residents can meet two of their neighborhood cops at a public meeting this Wednesday.

Through Aug. 14, major crimes were collectively up about 10 percent in the 72nd, which covers Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace and Park Slope South. Crime trends seemed to show the uptick is mostly attributable to Sunset Park.

The gathering will be hosted by Carmela Andersen and Philip Buonora, the Neighborhood Coordinating Officers, or NCOs, assigned to Sector C of the 72nd precinct. (Each precinct is divided up into four or five sectors under the city's community policing model.)

Sector C of the 72nd runs from 3rd Avenue to 7th Avenue, and from Greenwood Cemetery to 55th Street:

Wednesday's meeting will be the first time the NYPD has spoken publicly about crime in the 72nd Precinct. For more than a month, the department has declined to allow Patch to interview either precinct commander Emmanuel Gonzales or the NCOs in any precinct. The department has not explained its policy.
