ICYMI: Brooklyn Army Terminal Getting Landscape Redesign

Check out these new renderings for the Brooklyn Army Terminal's outdoor area.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — The Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park is getting an upgrade in its outdoor areas, including pathways leading to the new NYC Ferry terminal.

New renderings sent to Patch by the city's Economic Development Corporation show the sprawling campus lined with new greenery and outdoor seating. The 120,000 square feet of outdoor space will also include "wayfinding mechanisms" to make it easier to get between the buildings on the campus as well as the ferry station.

And some of the pavement will become permeable to help control stormwater runoff, an EDC spokesperson told Patch.

The re-developed outdoor areas are the final piece of a $115 million renovation commissioned by Mayor Bill de Blasio two years ago.

The renovations are expected to be completed in December of 2017 or January 2018, according to EDC.

In addition to Industry City and Bush Terminal, the Brooklyn Army Terminal is one of several major industrial spaces owned by the city in Sunset Park, where it is trying to drive more companies looking for large spaces outside of the cramped confines of Manhattan.

Some tenants at the terminal include UncommonGoods, Jacques Torres and Marc Joseph NY, Inc. The city is also using the terminal for its planned "Made In NY" manufacturing campus.
