Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- In an effort to phase out fossil fuel-run buses, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday that 60 zero-emission electric buses will be deployed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to serve New York City’s five boroughs. The MTA has promised to swap out all of New York City’s over 5,900 traditional gas-guzzling buses for electric vehicles by 2040. (Patch)
- The Asian-American Federation hosted an event in Sunset Park, on Saturday. The organization is working to help New Yorkers feel safe. So far, 1,200 people across the city have been trained. The NYPD said there were 26 crimes against Asians in 2022, double from the previous year. (CBS New York)
- Louis Colbert, 25, a Long Island man, was arrested in connection with an assault case in Grand Army Plaza. Colbert allegedly followed a 29-year-old woman out of the subway station on Sunday and tried to sexually assault her in broad daylight. (Patch)
