Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. Thursday morning a man attempted to climb the Brooklyn Bridge stopping traffic as emergency responders convinced him to come down off the bridges cables. The man was apprehended and taken to Methodist Hospital for examination. If you or someone you know is considering suicide, there are resources to help. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255. Its website offers services including a live chat. (Patch)
  2. Another attack on the elderly, a 70-year-old woman was stabbed in the back in a sneak attack on a Brooklyn sidewalk last week. Police are looking for a man in his 20s who ran off afterwards. The incident took place near Eighth Avenue and 53rd Street, just after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. (NBC New York)
  3. On Wednesday, just before 8 a.m., at Nostrand Avenue and St. Johns Place, a 45-year-old driver lost control of their Honda Pilot injuring several people. The car struck three pedestrians a 48-year-old man, as well as a 9 year old, and an 11 year old. (WPIX 11 New York)
  4. Slowly, but surely, the City of New York is beginning to convert its fleet and deploying curbside chargers to meet the city's electrification goals. Adding to the fleet for this year, the city plans to purchase 1,084 all-electric vehicles, including 148 Ford Mustang Mach-E police patrol cars and seven more electric Mack garbage trucks. (Subscription: The New York Times)
  5. Good news! Stop & Shop announced that it will carry the two FDA authorized COVID-19 anti-viral medications, Paxlovid and Molnupiravir, at all of its New York pharmacies. The best news is that the medication is free with a valid prescription from a health care provider. But the store asks that the infected individual stay home and send a trusted friend of family member to pick up the prescription. Need the COVID-19 Booster #2? That too can be obtained at NY Stop & Shop pharmacies! (News 12 Long Island)
