Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. Sunset Parks is saying goodbye to another retail store on Fifth Avenue and 48th Street. The Pretty Girl fashion outlet has closed. The store opened during the pandemic but could not survive. Neighbors are hoping for a gym, pet store, or another retail store. (Brooklyn Reporter)
  2. New York’s primary elections are on, despite the redistricting disputes. An appeals judge said he would allow the hiring of an expert to draw up alternative congressional district maps in the event the newly disputed one are trashed. An appeals court panel has scheduled another hearing for April 20. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. A manhole explosion on Friday morning in Park Slope forced locals from their homes, and shut down traffic for several hours. At least two manholes flew into the air, and black smoke was sent spiraling into the sky at approximately 9:35 a.m. About two dozen firefighters remained in the area, and were seen measuring air quality levels at about noon.   4. New York City is increasing its offshore wind project by adding wind turbines off the southwestern coast of Staten Island. The city is looking to hire a company to do the work, last week the Economic Development Corporation issued a request for proposals (RFP) to build a facility in Rossville, on Staten Island.
