Sunset Park Meeting to Focus on Extreme Weather Preparedness
Sunset Park activist group UPROSE is hosting a meeting this week where locals can discuss ways to prepare for extreme weather.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Community activist group UPROSE is hosting a meeting this Thursday for Sunset Park residents on ways to prepare the neighborhood for extreme weather caused by climate change.
"The goal of the meeting is for Sunset Park residents to create a community plan to be more climate adaptable and also to be better prepared for future extreme weather events," UPROSE organizer Ana Orozco told Patch.
That planning could involve establishing locations that can serve as cooling centers during heat waves, or as places where people can stay during flooding, Orozco said.

The gathering will pay particular attention to the needs of community members living close to the water, who are more likely to be impacted by rising waters, she added.
The meeting will take place on Aug. 25 at the UPROSE office, located at 166a 22nd St. in Sunset Park. It will begin at 6 p.m.
