BOROUGH PARK, BROOKLYN — Yiru Weng, a 67-year-old Sunset Park resident, died on April 23 after being fatally struck by a car three days earlier, police announced Wednesday.
Weng was crossing 6th Avenue at 52nd Street in Sunset Park just after noon on April 20 when he was hit by a car driven by Rodshel Pinkhasov, 58, of Ditmas Park, police said.

Emergency medical responders found Weng with severe head trauma, according to police. He died three days later at Lutheran Medical Center.

Pinkhasov stayed on the scene of the accident and was arrested, according to the NYPD. He was charged by police with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
However, a spokeswoman for the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said Wednesday that Pinkhasov had been released from jail and given a "desk warrant" — meaning he has yet to be arraigned in court. Pinkhasov is likely due back in court in about a month.
Asked why Weng's death was only made public this week, an NYPD spokeswoman said she didn't know.
Six Brooklyn pedestrians were killed by cars in the first two months of 2016, according to official city statistics. Citywide, 22 pedestrians were killed during that period. Another 1,925 were injured.
