Brush Fire Ignites Behind Jericho School: PHOTOS
Officials say heavy smoke could be seen from the county sump behind the building.

JERICHO, NY — Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze that broke out Monday afternoon behind a school in Jericho. Around 2 p.m. Monday, the Jericho Volunteer Fire department rushed to a large brush fire that ignited behind Robert Williams School on Barbara Lane, officials told Patch.
Heavy smoke could be seen from the county sump behind the building. Firefighters had to cut a chain on the fence of Birch Lane to get to the flames. They used water extinguishers to stop the fire from spreading and crews stretched a hose line into the sump. The fire was quickly extinguished and crews soaked the area.
Below are photos from the scene.
