Congressional Candidate Lafazan Runs On 'Own Merits' For Aug. Primary

WOODBURY, NY — The candidates are lining up for a chance to succeed Tom Suozzi in Congress. Democrat Joshua Lafazan, who at 28, already has amassed a decade as a politician in Nassau County. He wants to move from the County Legislature to Capitol Hill.

"We're running on our own merits," Lafazan, a guest on Friday's "Patch AM" said. "We don't disparage other candidates."

Lafazan and his challengers have an extra two months to get their word out before the Aug. 23 primary.

"Whether it's June or August, we're going to have a plan in place to put feet on the street," Lafazan said. "Obviously, end of August is a slower time than the end of June, but whenever the primary date is, we're going to be prepared, and we're going to be prepared to win."

Lafazan, who started his political life as a Syosset School Board member at age 18, knows that affordability is vital for families in the 3rd District.

"Decreasing that sky-high tax burden and getting health care costs under control," he said, are ways to address the economic concerns.
