Contractors Strike High-Pressure Natural Gas Main In Syosset

SYOSSET, NY — Contractors struck a high-pressure natural gas main Friday morning in Syosset prompting firefighters to evacuate a construction site and close area roads. National Grid workers and the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department were called for a gas main break around 2:30 a.m. near Convent Road and Albergo Lane, officials told Patch.

Arriving units found natural gas spewing out of the hole and closed Convent Road at Jackson Avenue. Engine 585 stretched a precautionary hose line and waited for utility workers to secure them gas line. The main was secured around 10:45 a.m.

Crews were also called to Greentrees Country Day School and Camp — about a half-mile away — for a report of a gas odor. Multiple other calls also came in for gas odors in the area. Crews checked out the area but meters registered no readings.
