Coronavirus: Jericho Schools Close Amid False Alarm

School officials disproved a rumor that a student or staff member had coronavirus, but canceled school anyway out of caution.

JERICHO, NY — The Jericho School District is shut down through the end of the week, according to an announcement from school officials, over a now-disproven threat of a local having been infected by the coronavirus.

Wednesday afternoon, the letter said, "we received a credible, unconfirmed report that someone in the community had contracted the Coronavirus. We cancelled after school activities today as we met with various agencies and gathered facts."

Later, school officials determined that no student nor staff member had been infected.
