Long Island Weather: Hour-By-Hour Nor'easter Forecast

How do sunny skies with temperatures near 80 sound? Yes, Long Island, we are going to get there quite soon, but first we have to make it through a downright miserable Mother's Day weekend weather-wise.

Saturday will be the worst of it. Rain is expected to begin Saturday morning and it likely won't stop falling until Sunday morning, the National Weather Service says. Wind gusts of 25-35 mph are expected Saturday afternoon and night.

A total of 2-3 inches of rain is likely by Sunday morning. No flood advisories or warnings have been issued, but Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX-TV and FiOS1 News, says "local flooding issues are likely in the usual suspect spots."

The rain will taper off from west to east Sunday morning. Scattered showers will be possible Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will continue to run below normal on Saturday and Sunday with plenty of cloud cover. Things will begin to warm on Monday, with highs by Wednesday and Thursday approaching 80 degrees.
