Pence Speaks On LI Ahead of Election

The former VP under Donald Trump spoke on Wednesday at Long Island Association luncheon.

WOODBURY, NY — Former vice president Mike Pence visited Long Island on Tuesday for a one-on-one conversation in the final days of the 2024 election.

While he isn't supporting Donald Trump for his return bid to the White House, he wouldn't back the Democrat.

"I could never support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz," Pence told a room of several hundred people. "I'm a conservative. They just represent a philosophy of government that I could never support."

But, Pence told the crowd at the Crest Hollow Country Club that he was staying out of this year's presidential cycle.

"I haven't endorsed our ticket," he said, according to a video posted by KSDK. "I have real concerns about the direction of the Republican party today."

Pence pointed out that "voices are prepared to ignore the National Debt. Voices that are marginalizing the sanctity of life."

Another concern for Pence is the former president's "continued insistence that I should have set aside my oath on that fateful day," he said. "For me, and the run-up to that fateful day, it was always very clear, the idea that any one person would have the ability to decide what Electoral College votes to count, or to send back to the states, to me was antithetical to the very nature of the presidency."
