Syosset Film Screening Set To Raise Mental Health Awareness

The film is based on the true story of a Long Island police officer who died by suicide.

SYOSSET, NY — A Nassau County lawmaker will host a presentation in Syosset of a dramatic film based on the true story of a Long Island police officer who died by suicide. Legislator Joshua Lafazan will host the presentation of "Eight" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Syosset Public Library, his office announced this month.

The film tells the story of author Steve Mason's father. Mason will discuss the aftermath of this trauma, his subsequent struggle with depression and drug addiction, and his journey to recovery and healing.

The screening and Mason's presentation are meant to help raise mental health and substance abuse awareness in the community and create a platform for facilitating candid discussions of these critical issues.
