Syosset Students Named Intel Semifinalists
High school seniors among only 300 nationwide to receive honor.

Three Syosset High School students are among 43 Long Island high school seniors named semifinalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.
Ridoy Majumdar, 17, Divij Sharma, 17, and Vivian Zhong, 17, got the news on Wednesday about being in an elite pool of 300 students nationwide to be selected as semifinalists.
From this pool, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, D.C,. in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.

Majumdar’s project is entitled “A Platform for Brain-Guided Prosthetics: Supervised Machine Learning via Near-infrared Spectroscopy of DL-PFC Hemodynamics.” Sharma’s is “Differences in Beam Dynamics Between Electric and Magnetic Rings Using High Precision
Tracking Simulations.” Zhong’s is “Describing Images: The Effect of Modern Communication on Personal Lexicon.”
