Help save CDPAP

Proposed changes to the CDPAP services will affect about 100,000 most vulnerable New Yorkers. You can help!!

The CDPAP (Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program), funded by Medicaid, serves individuals who are chronically ill or disabled. Under this program currently, a Designated Representative may help a person access services. Assistance through CDPAP may include things like help with personal care, housekeeping, providing critical transportation, and other duties related to activities of daily living.

Everyone benefits with the CDPAP program. The quality of care is personal and individualized. It prevents high cost government funded placement in care facilities, people can stay in their own homes and we all save money.

Unfortunately, Governor Hochul’s proposed budget seeks to cut services by eliminating the Designated Representative piece of the CDPAP program for those most in need. If you have a parent suffering from dementia or Alzheimers, a child with autism, or a family member left unable to communicate from a stroke, they would no longer be eligible to have a Designated Representative. Those most in need of services, would be cut.

Does this make sense to you? Let’s step up and communicate for those who cannot. Please contact your state elected officials and let them know we want this program to continue. It’s the right thing to do. You can also call Governor Hochul at 888-301-7869 (tel:888-301-7869) and ask her to retain the option of a Designated Representative to enable them to receive
CDPAP services.
