Road, sidewalk closures planned amid university construction (dailyorange.com) — If you drive or walk near Syracuse University, expect a key block around Comstock Avenue, Waverly Avenue and Marshall Street to close before the spring 2026 semester for residence hall construction. Parking on part of Marshall Street will be restricted, the south sidewalk will shut down, and drivers and pedestrians will be routed by posted detour signs.
   

2. SU to honor late architecture professor Fei Wang with memorial service (dailyorange.com) — Syracuse University will hold a January memorial service to honor architecture professor Fei Wang, who died in a traffic accident in London earlier this month. Wang, a key leader in SU’s China programs, was celebrated for mentoring students, supporting remote learning during COVID-19, and connecting American and Chinese architectural education.
   

3. 8 teens arrested, charged after 9 burglaries in Salina, N. Syracuse (cnycentral.com) — A string of nine overnight smash-and-grab burglaries hit businesses in Salina and North Syracuse, and deputies say the same teens may be tied to recent Syracuse break-ins. Eight juveniles, ages 15 to 17, were arrested, and investigators recovered three stolen vehicles and two handguns. More charges are possible as links to other Syracuse-area burglaries are investigated.
   

4. Anonymous couple leaves $1,000 Christmas tips at two Syracuse diners (video) (syracuse.com) — Two Syracuse-area diner servers just received surprise $1,000 Christmas tips from an anonymous couple who quietly left cash-stuffed envelopes after modest breakfasts at Dee’s Diner in Mattydale and Mother’s Cupboard on James Street. The unexpected generosity is already inspiring the waitresses and regulars to “pay it forward,” from sharing the money with coworkers to helping local businesses and family members.

The Top Syracuse Athletics Plays from 2025 (cnycentral.com) — Syracuse fans can relive 2025 through some of the year’s most electric Orange highlights, from Darrel Gil Jr.’s nationally recognized leaping football grab to Angelica Velez’s logo buzzer-beater. The recap also spotlights standout hustle from William Kyle III and creative lacrosse goals inside the Dome and on the NCAA Tournament stage.
