SUNY Launches New Program to Train Practical Nurses (iheart.com) — A new SUNY-funded program at the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center will start training licensed practical nurses in 2026, directly expanding healthcare career options for local residents. Backed by a $270,000 grant and a $30 million EOC transformation, the tuition-free program will grow from 20 to 40 students, targeting Syracuse’s nursing shortage while supporting residents facing financial and housing challenges.
   

2. Exalt CEO: At-risk youth program continues its plans to have Syracuse base (cnycentral.com) — A New York City-based nonprofit is formally building a Syracuse hub to help local youth offenders get back into school and the workforce through months of training and internships. Backed by state and cannabis reinvestment funds, Exalt is already coordinating with Onondaga County justice officials and will soon hire Syracuse-area staff as its first small classes complete the program.
   

3. City of Syracuse launches new digital procurement platform – Central New York Business Journal (cnybj.com subscription) — Syracuse has launched a new OpenGov online portal that centralizes city bids and RFPs, making it easier for vendors to find opportunities and submit proposals. Local businesses can now access bid documents for free, ask questions online, track bid status, and receive notifications about new projects, including a current RFP for medical testing services for the Syracuse Police Department.
   

4. Upstate NY Poison Center urges families to watch for holiday hazards (localsyr.com) — Syracuse’s Upstate New York Poison Center is warning families to watch kids closely around holiday plants, button batteries, alcohol, and cannabis edibles, which are driving a big rise in poisoning calls. Experts also urge locking up medicines and cleaners, checking carbon monoxide detectors, and calling Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 if you suspect a problem.
