3rd Egg Laid In Peregrine Falcon Nest At Cuomo Bridge

Experts say falcons can usually lay from three to five eggs during the early spring.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The falcons living near the top of one of the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge towers have produced another egg.

There are now three peregrine falcon eggs in the nest box.

People can monitor the raptors via the live webcam. There is also live video of the nest.

The man-made box near the top of one of the 419-foot towers of the bridge was installed by the New York State Thruway Authority.

Experts said falcons can usually lay from three to five eggs during the early spring, with the chicks, which are called eyases, hatching about a month later.

Last year, a pair of falcons laid four eggs, none of which hatched.

The public should remember that falcons are wild animals and the way they act reflects what happens in nature. Some of their actions may be unpleasant to watch, officials said, and some of the fledglings may not survive.
