Con Ed To Test Underground Wiring In Part Of Greenburgh

The work will begin in September, but won't be complete until the end of March, weather permitting.

GREENBURGH, NY — One part of the town of Greenburgh will be a test of whether putting electrical wires underground reduces power outages.

Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said that for years he’s been asking Con Edison to put wires under ground.

He said he found out Thursday that Con Ed will test the concept on Birchwood Lane in Hartsdale.

The underground work on Birchwood will begin in September, but won’t be complete until the end of March, weather permitting.

Feiner said that, since 2019, Con Ed has completed projects designed to reduce outages, spending about $4.5 million in Greenburgh. The company has also trimmed many trees, reducing the number of outages.

Residents of Birchwood Lane and Richard Terrace will be receiving letters soon from Con Ed.
